Jay Wilson, who worked at Blizzard for a decade and most notably served as Diablo 3 game director, has launched a new studio called Gas Giant Games. The studio’s creative director, Julian Love, also has Diablo experience—Diablo 3 through Diablo: Immortal and Diablo 4—so it’s not too surprising that the company is making an action RPG.

More precisely, it’s an “action RPG with survival elements,” according to Wilson, and settling on the concept apparently wasn’t a trivial task.

“Each of our concepts had to pass the test of showing that it would not only be a good experience to build, but a great game to play,” Wilson said in the announcement. “We all agreed we had found the game we had to make: an action RPG with survival elements that we think players of both genres will love.

“A development team’s time is a precious thing and there’s no justification for spending their time on anything other than games they want to make. And man, do we want to make this game.”

The survival RPG is in development for PC and consoles, “with mobile platforms to be evaluated.”

One of the exciting things about Warhammer: The Old World was the news of collaboration between the team working on it and Creative Assembly, which was working on Total War: Warhammer 3 at the time, to round out the army lists for Grand Cathay and Kislev. These two nations hadn’t been focused on in tabletop Warhammer for years, and the thought of them being expanded in The Old World was tantalizing.

We even saw concept art for specific units, like Kislev’s bear riders, Gryphon Legion, and Ice Guard. However, tucked away at the bottom of a news post about the additions coming to Total War: Warhammer 3’s Shadows of Change DLC is the following statement: “Fans of Warhammer: The Old World should note that there aren’t any current plans to bring Kislev or Grand Cathay to the tabletop for the foreseeable future.”

In my mind Razer has committed a sin. It’s nothing to do with the outrageously high price premium it’s always slapped on its gorgeous gaming laptops, and everything to do with the fact that it has seemingly discontinued the Blade 15. Do you remember Omegle? It launched in 2009 as a chat service with a twist: Instead of picking a server to join or people to talk to, users were randomly paired up for one-on-one chats with anonymous strangers from around the world. That sure sounds like a terrible idea, doesn’t it? And sure enough, racism and discrimination, pornography, and child abuse were all persistent problems the site faced. Yet it continued to operate for more than 14 years, until earlier this week when site founder Leif K-Brooks announced that he’s pulled the plug.

“Over the years, people have used Omegle to explore foreign cultures; to get advice about their lives from impartial third parties; and to help alleviate feelings of loneliness and isolation,” K-Brooks wrote in a lengthy shutdown announcement. “I’ve even heard stories of soulmates meeting on Omegle, and getting married. Those are only some of the highlights.”

But he also acknowledged that there was plenty of the opposite, too, writing, “There can be no honest accounting of Omegle without acknowledging that some people misused it, including to commit unspeakably heinous crimes.”
